Greetings!

The biggest change we've had this year is the flight of one of our chicks from
the nest.  Isabella has her own apartment now and is having a blast setting up house.
She's also very fussy about how she decorates and what colors of this or that she wants--
right down to her tea cups, dinner service and the Ed Hardy artwork in her kitchen.

I have to say it's fun-- lot's of fun-- to go visiting at her house.  I'll probably be posting
pics of this next month, after she's had some time to put everything together.

Number #1 Son, at 19, has graduated with an Associate of Science degree and a
perfect 4.0 grade average.  He's on the Chancellor's list. (Kudos for Home Schooling)
He's transferred to another university to continue working towards his bachelor's degree and
will begin classes this June.

I'll be working like mad this month to put our house and grounds in order for Beltaine,
when my coven will be coming-- live and in person-- to celebrate with a wompom shin-dig.
I'm looking forward to meeting my Sisters in person and sharing stories, magickal energy,
good food, and good times.

This spring and summer my local coven sister, Mare Ryder, and I will be hosting new-age yardsale
'boutiques' once or twice a month.  We are working like crazy handcrafting all kinds of magickal items
and much of it the merchandise you see at Wytchy Wares.  Mare has her own projects she's working
on as well, and this should be a fun-filled adventure.  You will also be able to receive live tarot readings
with me and pendulum readings from Mare.  It will be a hoot.  If you live in our area,
watch the local paper for announcements.

Below you'll find raw photos I've popped into a slideshow for you, some are current and some
are older photos I've pulled from my folders-- us, our critters, stuff,
and life at this Witch's modest homestead...

 Crystal Therapy

I've started a new section in our newsletter this month, and I hope to expand on this topic.  In future issues we'll look at how to make tinctures from crystals for therapeutical use-- both direct and indirect tinctures, and we'll look at other ways to use the energy of crystals for healing.  We'll also take a look each month at what crystals may work for which ailments.

ring1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

The ring Above is my newest purchase, and no, this one isn't going up for sale at Enchanted Jewelry.  I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.  As you can see, this ring contains five individual stones of completely different types-- ocean jasper, citrine, garnet, peridot, & aquamarine.   I wanted to see what kind of magickal/therapeutical energies would be combined altogether in this one magnificent piece of jewelry, and that's exactly what we're going to do now with the help of Judy Hall's book:

"The Encyclopedia of Crystals"

Beginning at the top of the ring, we'll work our way down...

Ocean Jasper:

Ocean Jasper was discovered in Madagascar at the millennium and is said to be connected to Atlantis.  The pattern symbolizes the interconnectedness of all, encouraging journeying and supporting service to humankind.  In addition to carrying the generic properties of Jasper, Quartz, and Agate, this stone reminds us that nature is cyclical, rhythmical, and fluid and assists in coping with change.  With gentle nurturing, Ocean Japer brings to the surface long-hidden unresolved emotional issues and helps you accept responsibility for yourself.

Garnet

Source:
Europe, USA (Arizona & New Mexico),
South Africa, Australia
Chakra:  Base, heart, purifies & energizes all
Number:  2  (varies with type of garent)
Zodiac Sign:  Leo, Virgo, Capricorn, & Aquarius
(varies with type of garent)
Planet:  Mars

Beneficial for:  Attracting love, dreaming, blood diseases, regenerating the body, metabolism, spinal and cellular disorders, blood, heart, lung, regeneration of DNA, assimilation of minerals/vitamins.

Named for the seed of the pomegranate, granatum, it is said to be good luck to be given a garnet and bad luck to steal one.  Five hundred years ago it was used to drive off phantoms and demons.  Garnet is a powerfully energizing stone that protects you, and is said to warn of approaching danger, but draws harm to enemies.  Traditionally used for engagement rings, Garnet inspires love and devotion and removes inhibitions and taboos.  Opening the heart, it bestows self-confidence.  This stone balances the sex drive and alleviates emotional disharmony.  Red Garnet stimulates controlled rise of kundalini energy and adds potency, heightening the effect of tantric sex, and attracting a compatible partner for sexual healing.

Useful in a crisis, Garnet is helpful in situations where there seems to be no way out or where life has fragmented or is traumatic.  If fortifies the survival instinct, bringing courage and hope.  Crisis becomes challenge under Garnet’s influence, and it promotes mutual assistance.  Dissolving ingrained behavior patterns and outworn ideas that no longer serve, it bypasses resistance or self-induced unconscious sabotage.  With strong links to the pituitary gland, Garnet stimulates expanded awareness, past-life recall, and out-of-body experiences.  Garnet activates other crystals, amplifying their effect.  Square-cut garnets bring success in business matters.

Peridot

Source:  Canada, Russia, USA, Italy, Pakistan, Brazil, Egypt, Ireland, Sri Lanka, Canary Islands
Chakra:  Heart, solar plexis
Number:  5,6
Zodiac Sign:  Virgo, Leo, Scropio, Sagittarius
Planet:  Venus

Beneficial for:  Jealousy, resentment, spitefulness, anger, stress, lethargy, confidence, assertion, tissue regeneration, metabolism, skin, heart, thymus, lungs, gallbladder, spleen, intestinal tract, ulcers, eyes, birth contractions, bipolar disorder, hypochondria, melancholia, digestive problems.

Believed in ancient times to keep away evil spirits, Peridot is still a protective stone for the aura and a powerful cleanser.  Releasing and neutralizing toxins, it purifies the subtle and physical bodies, and the mind.  Showing how to detach oneself from outside influences and to look to your own higher energies for guidance.  Peridot teaches that holding on to people, or the past, is counterproductive.  This visionary crystal helps you understand your destiny and spiritual purpose.  It is especially helpful to healers.

Aquamarine

Source:  USA, Mexico, Russia, Brazil, India, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Pakistan
Chakra:  Aligns all, clears throat chakra,
opens third eye

Aquamarine’s color comes from minute traces of iron.  Said to protect sailors at sea and to guard against drowning, it was the stone of the sea goddess and counteracted the forces of darkness, gaining favor from the spirits of light.  A wonderful stone for meditation, Aquamarine shields the aura, invokes high sates of consciousness, and encourages service to humanity. With an affinity to sensitive people, it invokes tolerance and supports anyone overwhelmed by responsibility. Breaking self-defeating programs, it leads to dynamic change.  Useful for closure on all levels, this stone is helpful in understanding underlying emotional states and in interpreting how you feel.  Removing extraneous thought, Aquamarine filters information reaching the brain and clarifies perception.

 Spells of the Month

 Wiccan-and-Pagan

 Saint Benedict's Healing Spell
(A Healing Spell for Animals)

In his lifetime Saint Benedict persecuted pagans & witches.  One wonders how he would have reacted had he known that, centuries later, he'd be magically petitioned to assist ailing animals?

Burn a white candle dedicated to Saint Benedict and offer him a glass of brandy or Benedictine.  Make your petition of healing.  Saint Benedict's animal ally is the crow.  Look for the appearnce of a crow to indicate a response to your petition.

 Astrological Healing Waters

Each part of the body is under the dominion of an astrogogical sign, from the head (Aries) to the feet (Pisces).  The sign influences that part of that anatomy.

Create twelve bottles of lunar-charged healing water, corresponding to the astrological signs:

1.  Each month, on the night of the Full Moon, expose a glass bottle filled with pure spring water to the moonbeams.

2.  In the morning, label the bottle with the appropriate astrological sign (or place in smaller bottles, then label).

3.  Apply these waters to the parts of the body ruled by that astrolgoical sign for healing purposes.

Kitchen Wytchery

Elsie204.jpg kitchen witch 2 picture by witch_of_endore

As the Kitchen Witch knows, natural magick can be found in certain foods, recipes, as well as herbs.  In this section we're going to put this knowledge to work.

Witches-Kitchenbymagic_art.jpg icon kitchen witch picture by witch_of_endore

Since our theme for this month is healing and health, I'm going to list not just recipes, but foods that are used for their healing properties as well:

Watermelon

Planet:  Moon
Element:  Water
Energies:  Healing

Lore:  What could be a more all-American food than watermelon?...The watermelon is native to Africa and was brought to our continent during the saddest and most savage time in our history-- at the time of the trafficking of human beings

The watermelon was introduced to Egypt in about 2000 BCE (Before the Common Era).  Ancient Egyptians mixed watermelon juice with wine and gave this drink to ill persons who were believed to be possessed by illness-causing demons.  Watermelon was mythologically related to Set, and Egyptian women may have eaten watermelon in prescriptions designed to cause weight gain.

In Hawaii, a watermelon is somteims rolled out of the house through the front door to ease the spirit of a deceased person into the next world.

Watermelon is sacred to the goddess Yemaya in the various manifestaions of the Yoruba regligion.

Magical Uses:  Nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer day than ice-cold watermelon.  This is a healing fruit.  Simply eat with visualization.  Like all melons, the scent alone is also beneficial to healing.

Spices & Herbs

The following spices/herbs can be used in recipes when healing is needed and this is your intention when preparing the dish:

allspice, garlic (*not* garlic salt), peppermint, & sage

Healing Apple Crisp

2 cups apples/peeled & sliced
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup honey
1/2 to 3/4 cup graham crackers, crushed
2 tblsp. butter, melted

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

Visualize yourself in glowing, radiant health as you peel & slice the apples, squeeze the juice, & crush the graham crackers.

Turn prepared apples into a 9X9 baking dish.  Mix the lemon juice into the honey & pour over the apples.  (if the apples are very tart, use slightly less lemon juice & slightly more honey.)

Combine the crumbled graham crackers with the butter & sprinkle over the apples.  Bake at 375 for 30-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender.  Serve topped with cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.  Serves four.
