 Tarot

edc9.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

"This is another card that deals with the power of the feminine, but in a much more mundane way than the High Priestess. This card encompasses the world of motherhood, birth, fertility, dominance and submission. In many readings, the Empress actually represents a mother or maternal figure in the querent’s life. Her position in the tarot spread, as well as whether she appears upright or reversed, can speak volumes about the kind of relationship they have.

This card, in its reversed position, can warn of female health issues. It can also reveal the loss of a child through a miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion, and it has done so in several of my readings, exposing a woman’s private pain. Use discretion when broaching such a personal issue. Sometimes women can be relieved to talk about their experience, and others prefer not to go there. This card has also revealed many a pregnancy.

The Empress shows up to highlight femininity at its most controversial. She can revel in motherly control and wrap unsuspecting victims in a smothering busty hug that is a maternal death grip. At the other end of her conflicting personality, she eats her young, or abandons them in the nest, scampering off to greener pastures and new adventures.

The Empress can also expose extremes of female sexuality at opposite ends of the spectrum. This Empress may possess a very flamboyant sexuality that produces rampant promiscuity; or she’s a prude, the pinup girl for frigidity. She feels overwhelmed by guilt when it comes to sex, and she wants everybody else to feel guilty too."

Stones Icon 2 Pictures, Images and Photos

"In general, crystals and stones used for healing are used in a variety of ways…They are worn on the body as pendents, rings, etc.; carried on the person in pockets, mojo bags, and such; used as healing pendulums suspended above the affected areas; placed directly on the affected body part or placed on the appropriate chakra; and sometimes they are used to create healing tinctures that are taken internally, applied to affected body areas, or sprayed around a space..."

Spell of the Month

 To Spite Your Face

One of the most frustrating foes to deal with is a person who is jealous and spiteful. This spell will deal with their energy, while most importantly, it will protect you from the fallout of their actions and their spitefulness.

Items needed:

1. A cauldron with a nice little pile of burning herbs (slippery elm and sage would be nice, but sage will do), creating a respectable sized flame-- you might want to use a small charcoal tablet also, just to keep things going

2. A black votive candle

3. A photo of the target-- if this is not available, their signature or a name paper will have to do

4. A red flannel bag

5. Three blossoms from a thorny plant, preferably a thistle; or three thorns-- which are just as effective

Carve the target’s name on the black spell candle, and sit it on your altar, near your cauldron. Light it-- with glee and delight, knowing that you are lighting a flame beneath your enemy’s ass.

You will take their photo and, with the focused emotions you feel at this person and their actions, you will mark it, slash it, spit on it, stomp on it…or do something else even more dastardly to it, all the while maintaining the focus and intent of your actions. It’s imperative that you do not loose sight of your intentions.

Burn this image in your cauldron, amidst the herbs and flames.

When the fire has burned down, the black candle has burned itself out and everything has cooled down-- except your emotions and will-- deposit the ashes and remnants of the spell into the red flannel bag.

Then add the three blossoms or thorns to the bag, one at a time.

With the first blossom/thorn, say:

“The first I add to freeze your speech.”

With the second blossom/thorn, say:

“The second I add to halt your reach.”

With the third blossom/thorn, say:

“The third I add to spite your face,

That you may wallow in disgrace.”

Keep this bag in a safe and secret place, allowing the magic time to mature and ripen, that the target will feel the full effects.

 mortar_pestle-1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

 Holly

Gender:  Masculine

Planet:  Mars

Element:  Fire

Powers:  Protection, anti-lightening, luck, dream magic

Magical Uses:
(paraphrased)

Holly is a protective herb used to keep you safe from lightening, poison, and evil spirits.  Planted around the home, it keeps the occupants safe from black magic.  Holly is said to tame wild animals, and holly water sprinkled on newborn babies will protect them.

This herb is carried to promote good luck-- espcially when carried by men, because its energy is masculine.  At Yule time its hung around the house for good luck.

Its said that holly leaves added to a mojo bag and kept beneath your pillow will make your dreams come true.

 Ivy

Gender:  Feminine

Planet:  Saturn

Element:  Water

Powers:  Protection, healing

Magical Uses:
(paraphrased)

Ivy is carried by women for good luck in general, and is traditionally carried by brides for this reason.

Where Ivy is grown or scattered, its suppose to guard against negativity and disaster.  Its also used in fidelity and love charms and spells.

Ivy is magically "paired" with holly as a potent charm.
