February heralds the pagan holiday of Imbolc and
the infamous Valentine's Day.  This month we're going to wallow in
love.  We'll be looking at herbs and spells to find our true love,
call in our soul mate from the realm of the universe, revitalize
an old relationship, and chart our destinies in the world
of duality and couples.

There's a new section added to this newsletter called
"Kytchen Wytchery", and you'll find monthly
recipes and information on foods that incorporate magick
into your everyday cooking.

They don't call us Kitchen Witches for nothing!

Without further ado, we'll begin with...

Tarot Tips

To prospective tarot readers...Have you studied the classic meanings of the cards?  Do you have a grasp of the archetypes that are used in the major arcana?  Once you are privy to this knowledge, you have a good base on which to grow in your knowledge of the tarot and tarot reading.

Now...Don't exactly forget what you've learned, but set this information on the backburner of your mind.

It's time to allow the intuitive part of your sub-conscious to come to the surface.  Choose a card from the deck and spend five minutes meditating on it, looking at it, observing it...What images and thoughts came to mind?  Something may have come to the surface of your subconcious that has nothing to do with the classic meaning of the card you chose.  But this information is important.  Remember it, if it's a message-- pass it along, if it's a warning...heed it.

The Secret Tarot

Visit Witch's Hollow & find the Secret Tarot message.  Is it for you?  You may be surprised.  When the Universe has something important to tell us, the information is often found at an unexpected source.

Spells of the Month

This month we take another look at love spells:

To Enhance Your Powers of Attraction:

You will need:

one green candle
one white candle
matches
mortar & pestle
3 heaping tsp. of dried mint
3 heaping tsp. of dried apple
1 tblsp. dried marjoram
1 tblsp. dried rose petals
1 large box or chest for holding tea

Cast this spell between a waxing half-moon and full moon, on any day but Saturday.

1.  Light the green candle saying:

"For that which is without."

Light the white candle saying:

"For that which is within."

3.  Grind all the listed ingredients together, chanting as you do:

"Everything that I am I will be
Everything changes from within me."

4.  Place the ingredients in your container & seal it.  Hold it in both hands, visualizing to yourself the good points others may see in you.

5.  When the vision is fixed in your mind, open the container and on your next breath, breathe the power of that vision into the mixture.  Seal the box immediately.

6.  When you wish to have a cup of tea, use two teaspoons of the mixture in a cup of hot water, leaving it to brew.  Then pour it through a strainer, and sweeten the tea to suit your taste.

Quitting Powder

This Hoodoo formula could be called "Love Fix Powder".  It allegedly forces someone to quit bothering you and leave you alone, halting unwanted romantic and sexual advances.  As a bonus, it may also be used to stop any attempts at placing a hex on you.

1.  Blend and powder the following ingredients:

ground cinnamon

ground nutmeg

powdered newsprint-- Preferably from the target's favorite publication or even a newspaper that has been in their possession

tobacco taken from a cigarette-- ideally obtained from that person, but their favorite brand would be a good second choice.

2.  Use the resulting powder in any of the following ways:

Sprinkle it where your target is sure to sit on it or step over it.

Sprinkle it to create a boundary of safety for yourself.

Carry it in a mojo bag as a protective talisman.

Win Your Heart Candle Spell

This spell allegedly enables you to win the heart of the one you desire.

1.  Carve your name and that of the desired party nine times each on one pink seven-day candle.

2.  Gently warm honey in a pan and then blend in rosewater and powdered orris root.

3.  Roll the candle in this mixture and burn it.

Kitchen Wytchery

Elsie204.jpg kitchen witch 2 picture by witch_of_endore

As the Kitchen Witch knows, natural magick can be found in certain foods, recipes, as well as herbs.  In this section we're going to put this knowledge to work.

Witches-Kitchenbymagic_art.jpg icon kitchen witch picture by witch_of_endore

Love Pie

You will need:

1 dozen oysters

1 steak, trimmed into 1" wide strips

butter

flour

3/4 cup beef  bouillan

1/2 cup water

2 tblsp. cornstarch (optional)

1 pie crust

2 tblsp. milk

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Cut oysters in half.  Place each half in a strip of trimmed steak, add a pat of butter, and roll the steak around the oyster.  Coat each roll with flour.  Place in a pie pan.  Pour beef bouillon and water over oyster/steak rolls.  Cover with pie crust.  Slit crust top to allow steam to escape.  Brush crust with milk.  Bake for 1 1/2 hours.

Yield:  6 servings

Editor's Note:  For a thicker pie sauce, mix 2 tblsp. of cornstarch into the water and bouillon and then pour the liquid over the oyster/steak rolls.

Magical Uses:  Love!

Wytchy Wares

Lady Amythyst Raine is a professional tarot reader, legally ordained clergy, and solitary Kitchen Wytch. She has been practicing various forms of magick and paganism for 34 years.

She brings to you infinite possibilites in the form of mojo bags, talismans, witch's bottles, spell candles and other forms of basic cottage wytchery. These are ancient practices steeped in a variety of traditions, including Hoodoo and European Witchcraft.

From the depths of the Louisiana Bayous, to the Celtic Isles, magick has been handed down from generation to generation. Here, this magick can become your heritage as well...to protect you, bring prosperity and peace, dole out retribution to enemies, heal and maintain healthy energy, and altar those circumstances which block your path to growth and success.

Items highlighted this month:

Spell Candles

Red Candles

Red candles are traditionally crafted for romance, passion, lust-- all things "hot and passionate".  I have used them to heat and stir passions in many ways, for many purposes, and for many reasons.  I've used them in combination with other candles to raise fiery passion for different intentions and causes.

6" pillar candle

votive spell candle

Green Candles

Green candles call up the magick for money and health.

I've used green candles for years to make sure that my purse is never empty and there is a steady flow of income into our household.  This is not about greed and getting rich-- it never is.  It's about making sure you have food on the table, a roof over your head, and clothes on your back.  Use a green candle in conjunction with money spells, and don't forget that you have to put forth a mundane effort to raise money along with magickal efforts.

6" pillar candle
(prosperity)

$20.00

 votive spell candle

$8.00

Green candles are also used in health and healing spells...light a green  candle to call forth energies needed for healing.

6" pillar candle
(healing)

$20.00

votive spell candle

$8.00

Blue Candles

Blue candles are used to call up our psychic energies, to recharge our psychic batteries.  They are used to open doorways into our sub-concious.  Light a blue candle when you wish to clear your intuitive senses.  Blue candles can also be used in conjunction with dream spells.

6" pillar candle

$20.00

votive spell candle

$8.00

Yellow Candles

Yellow candles are used when energies are needed for mental endeavors or to further communications.  Light a yellow candle when you need to call forth energies for tests, exams, mental work of any kind.  Use a yellow candle to open pathways to better communication between family or friends, or in conjunction with spells for furthering understanding.

6" pillar candle

$20.00

votive spell candle

$8.00

Enchanted Jewelry

I am absolutely floored at the response I've gotten for Enchanted Jewelry.  Items are selling sometimes the same day I put them up.  I have several new items that I have to get up soon, things have just been so hectic here with my daughter in the hospital.

I am not a big 'jewelry dealer',  just a little stay-at-home kitchen wytch and mom in Nebraska, so I do not buy jewelry in bulk amounts.  I actually just run across a piece here or there that I like personally and decide to get, and I'm very careful what I procure for my site.  It *Must* be something that I would wear myself.

I have had many requests for repeats of certain spells that have been offered before, and I hear you.  I also am adding new spells to new pieces coming in...it's just a matter of visiting often and catching what you need at the right time.

Moss Agate ring-- .925 sterling silver--
size 8.5-- large setting, big ring

 Papa Legba Protection Spell

MossAgatering1.jpg picture by witch_of_endore

To this beautiful-- and impressive-- moss agate ring, I have called upon the hoodoo spirit of Papa Legba in the form of a protection spell.

Papa Legba is the famous, and infamous, spirit of the crossroads, often appearing as an old black man.  He's a spirit from the West African Voodoo tradtion, and you will find him under the guise of many other names, including:  Elegba, Exu, and Papa La Bas-- his New Orleans incarnation.

Papa Legba is a trickster who delights in practical jokes and word games, but he is also a spirit of amazing generosity and protective care.  He protects infertile women, removing obstacles to motherhood; and he assists the poor, often opening up paths and removing obstacles that hinder their growth towards prosperity.  It is said that Papa Legba stands at the crossroads with his shepherd's crook, where he opens and closes access to life's path.

Papa Legba's days are Monday & every third day of the month, his colors are red, black and white, his numbers 3 and 23.

The agate in general is used in spells and magickal rituals involving strength, bravery, fertility, strength, courage, longevity, and healing.  It's energy is receptive (feminine) and it's element is the earth.

Due to its curious markings, which suggest moss or trees, the moss agate is considered the gardener's talisman.  It's worn to relieve a stiff neck, to lend energy to the depleted, and for healing purposes.  It is also used in spells involving riches, happiness, and long life.  Wear this stone to make new friends and to discover 'treasure'.

Enchanted Moss Agate Ring

Papa Legba Protection Spell

(I just have to tell you Ladies...my coven sister, Mare, knows that I held onto this ring for a week before I could bring myself to sell it.  It is just a gorgeous moss agate.  I also told family members to watch for unusual things happening around our house after casting the spell and invoking Papa Legba...and he didn't disappoint us!)

This is one of my favorite videos. Besides being humorous-- and it is-- we're really not going to turn our wayard men into toads, although a few of us might have tried. Watch the video closely. I am fascinated by this woman's hands. Don't ask me why.
